Spring 2021 Update

18/4/2021

Molly had her third litter in November 2020, with four boys and three girls now all settled into their new homes with their new families. With the Covid pandemic and restrictions we communicated mainly through FB group, Messenger and WhatsApp chats and have had some lovely progress reports and catch ups with photos and videos of all the pups.

What next? Molly, Lily and Cassie are now ladies of leisure and enjoying retirement from having pups. We do have plans for more pups in about two years time using one of Molly's offspring from her recent litter, assuming all is well with health tests. She is only 5 months old at the moment but is a lovely, confident girl with a coat like her mum, a real chip off the old block for sure. Also we plan for one of Molly's boys, Boris, to be available for stud shortly - he is a beautiful polar bear of a dog with a wonderful, gentle temperament and it would be great to see more pups with his traits.

Pupdate - Week 7

Would anyone like a puppy without a tail?
Picture
Don't worry, we all still have our tails in tact!

Today was another big day for us. We went for our first ride in a motor car - we were so excited! When the car stopped we were each picked up and carried into a building. Inside we met a nice man and woman who placed us on a table, checked us over, listened to our hearts and put a very tiny chip in the back of our necks. We didn't get any fish though. Then the man waved a magic wand over us - it beeped!

We are no longer having soft, pre-soaked kibble but have moved on to dry kibble, which is nice and crunchy. We are also drinking a lot more water and really don't need top ups from mum now, just now and again.

Also this week, we were given a new place to explore, called a crate, which some of us might have in our new homes. Its a nice safe place and we like to sleep in it. There are some photos of us in it in the gallery.

Well, this is probably the last pupdate from us. Seven weeks have simply flown by and very very soon we will be leaving to join our new families, which will mean even more excitement! Wonder if there will be any tails to chew...definitely tales to tell :)

Week 6 and and our favourite things are definitely food and playing at the moment. We're now so big we don't all fit round the "Mexican Hat" feeder and this morning we all had our own individual bowls.

We are starting to get into mischief, trying to go places we shouldn't and have a chew on anything that looks interesting. We really look forward to meal times and throng around excitedly trying to trip up whoever is carrying our food bowl. We're sweet really and come for a cuddle and a play afterwards!

This week we have been introduced to the outdoor world and now spend a lot of time during the day outside exploring and playing. Its been a bit windy the past couple of days but we like that and sometimes get to pounce on a passing leaf! When inside we have been listening to a CD that makes all sorts of strange sounds such as engine noises, washing machines, trains hooting and fireworks so we get used to them. It isn't long until Bonfire Night now so it is good to hear what fireworks will sound like and not be surprised by them. Today we had another dose of worming medicine - argh! There are some more photos of us here

Wow! This has been a majorly exciting week for us puppies. We have had visits from all our new families and loads of attention and people taking photos of us. In the same week we have been introduced to new tastes, sights and smells and toys to play with. We are starting to be weaned and have discovered there is more to eat and drink beside's our mum's milk (but we still like a good drink from mum!).

One of our visitors even climbed into our pen with us. She was a lot bigger than us! She said her name was Emily and gave us cuddles.

More photos here. As you can see from the photo above, Molly has decided that standing or sitting for feeds is now easier for the pups and her. Whenever she enters the whelping box they are up on their feet so fast now and heading straight to the bar! All have eyes open, can hear and are up on their feet exploring, little tails wagging. After a feed they play with each other and are communicating more and more. They all enjoy a good cuddle and their new families are starting visits. In the coming week we will be beginning the weaning process, slowly introducing them to softened puppy kibble.

Two weeks old already... and most of the pups now have eyes open and are starting to lift themselves a little on their legs. They are able to move about much quicker. Yesterday they had a great treat - their first dose of wormer each, yum! They also had their toenails slightly clipped. All are very contented. They are beginning to find their voices and we think the first proper yap is not too far off.

One week old today...look how much bigger we are..
Picture
All puppies have more than doubled in weight in one week, which is as it should be, and this morning one puppy, Miss Purple, even opened her eyes! She might be the smallest at the moment but she is ahead of the rest eyes-wise and no doubt will soon be exploring her environment further.

Pups are five days old now and gaining weight fast. They are weighed every day and on target to double weight in the first week. All of them have collars on so we know who's who! They are sleeping and feeding a lot and of course their eyes are still closed at the moment. More photos are in the gallery here
