The puppies are now just over three weeks old! They are much stronger on their back legs and are able to move about. They have started to play with their puppy toys and make little barks! This week they had their first dose of worming medicine and I have started the weaning process. Soon they will need to move out of the whelping box and have more space to explore!
The puppies are getting bigger and stronger everyday. Their eyes are open and they are beginning to get up on their back legs and move around the whelping box. They are starting to make little dog noises and play with each other.
Half the whelping box is now lined with newspaper so they can start learning to use the paper as their toilet!
Lily is well, enjoying a good diet to keep her milk supply strong. She spends sometime away now from her babies for a well earned nap. She is doing a grand job in keeping them clean and fed.
The puppies are handled daily and had their first nail trim this week. Family and friends have been to visit.
I have chosen their kennel names and registered the puppies with the kennel club. I am awaiting approval of the names that I have chosen.
The puppies are now 10 days old and have doubled their birthweight. Their eyes are starting to open and they are beginning to get up on their legs. They know when mum is near and vocally let her know they are ready for the milk bar to open.
Lily became a proud mother (and Cassie a proud granny) of a litter of 6 puppies on May Day! She had 3 girls and 3 boys and they arrived into the world girl-boy-girl-boy-girl-boy between 6.30pm and 8pm on Thursday 1st May. All the pups look healthy and beautiful and Lily is being a great mum.
